Create custom pages and set up their SEO

In this article we will show you how to create a custom page in your store, with its own address and built with blocks, and how to control how it appears in search engines and when it is shared.

WHAT IS A CUSTOM PAGE?

A custom page is an extra page of your store, with its own address. It is built with the same blocks as the Home page: product shelves and embedded HTML.

Its address always has this format:

{your store domain}/p/{address you choose}

For example, if your store is mystore.publica.la and you choose the address offers, the page will be at mystore.publica.la/p/offers.

⚠️ Custom pages are only shown to your visitors once the Home page has been published at least once. Until then, anyone who opens the address will see a "page not found" message.

CREATE A PAGE

1. Go to Control Panel > Settings > Interface > Pages.

2. Click New page.

3. Type the page Title. It is required, can have up to 255 characters and must include at least one letter or number.

4. Check the Address. It fills in on its own from the title, after {your store domain}/p/. If you want a different one, type it by hand. Once you edit it, it stops following the title.

5. Click Create page.

The new page opens in the editor as a draft, with a navigation bar and a footer.

You can also create it from Control Panel > Settings > Interface > Appearance: open the page selector at the top and choose New page.

If something goes wrong while creating it, you will see one of these messages:

MessageWhat it meansWhat to do
"The address entered is already assigned to another page."Another page of your store uses that address.Type a different address.
"This title does not produce an address. Type one by hand."The title has no letters or numbers to build one.Type the address yourself.

💡 Two pages cannot have the same address. If you delete a page, its address becomes free again.

BUILD THE PAGE WITH BLOCKS

The custom page uses the same editor as the Home page. To open it, go to Control Panel > Settings > Interface > Appearance, choose the page in the selector at the top and work in the Blocks tab.

1. Click Add block and choose Product shelf or Embedded HTML. The options for each one are in Add shelves and embedded HTML.

2. Drag the blocks to change their order and use the eye icon to hide one.

3. If you need to, edit the Navigation bar or the Footer with the Edit button on each row. The steps are in Set up the navigation bar and footer.

⚠️ The navigation bar and the footer are shared: a change to either one applies to every page of your store.

A custom page can hide the navigation bar and the footer just for itself, without affecting the rest of your store.

1. Open the page in Control Panel > Settings > Interface > Appearance.

2. On the Navigation bar or Footer row, click the eye icon.

The Home page cannot hide them.

💡 The custom page does not have the adult content switch or the Home pop-up: those belong only to the Home page.

PUBLISH THE PAGE

1. In the editor, click Publish.

2. Confirm in the window that appears.

Each page is published separately: publishing a custom page does not publish the Home page or the theme. For the details of the process, read Edit and publish a page in Appearance.

SET UP THE PAGE SEO

SEO defines how your page looks in search engine results and when someone shares it. The same options are available on the Home page and on every custom page.

1. Go to Control Panel > Settings > Interface > Appearance.

2. Choose the page in the selector at the top and open the Page settings tab.

3. Fill in the fields of SEO configuration.

4. Check the preview and click Save.

FieldWhat it is forLimit
SEO titleThe title search engines and shared links show.65 characters
SEO descriptionThe summary below the title.160 characters
Open Graph image (Upload image)The image shown when someone shares the page. Remove brings back the store image.JPG or PNG, at least 1200 x 600 pixels, up to 5 MB
Show in search enginesCustom pages only. If you uncheck it, the page is hidden from search engines.None

The preview has two tabs: Search engines shows a search result and When shared shows the card people would see on a social network. Search engines can change the title and description they show, and each app displays shared links in its own way.

⚠️ SEO changes apply immediately when you click Save. They do not follow the draft and publish cycle: they show on the live page even if it has unpublished block changes. The image you upload is only stored when you click Save.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I LEAVE A FIELD EMPTY?

If you leave a field empty, the page uses the store value, so it always has a title, description and image when the store has them.

FieldCustom pageHome page
TitleThe page nameThe store SEO title
DescriptionThe store SEO descriptionThe store SEO description
ImageThe store social image or, if none, the logoThe store social image or, if none, the logo

The store values are set in Control Panel > Settings > Marketing.

💡 If you do not fill in the SEO title, renaming the page also changes the title search engines show. Fill in the SEO title so it is not affected.

HIDE A PAGE FROM SEARCH ENGINES

1. Open the custom page in Control Panel > Settings > Interface > Appearance and go to Page settings.

2. In SEO configuration, uncheck Show in search engines.

3. Click Save.

The preview will read "This page does not appear in search engines." The Home page cannot be hidden this way.

⚠️ Hiding a page from search engines does not make it private: anyone who has the link can open it.

CHANGE THE TITLE OR ADDRESS OF A PAGE

1. Open the page in Control Panel > Settings > Interface > Appearance.

2. Go to the Page settings tab.

3. Change the Title or the Address and click Save.

⚠️ If you change the address, the previous one stops being available and links that pointed to it stop working. Update the links to the page, including those in the menu.

FIND AND DELETE PAGES

To see all your pages, go to Control Panel > Settings > Interface > Pages. The list shows 20 pages per screen, and pages that were never published have the Draft label. The page selector in Appearance shows only the 5 newest, so if you do not find a page there, look for it in the Pages list.

To delete a page:

1. Open the page and go to the Page settings tab.

2. In the Delete page box, click Delete page.

3. Confirm in the window that appears.

⚠️ The page and its blocks are deleted and the action cannot be undone. The address becomes free again for another page.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I see the page in the dashboard, but when I open the address it says "page not found". Why?

There are three possible causes: the page was never published (it has the Draft label in the Pages list), the Home page was never published and the store is not live yet, or you changed the address and the previous one no longer exists.

Can I link a custom page from the menu?

Yes. In the navigation bar editor, choose a custom menu, add a link and paste the page address: {your store domain}/p/{address}. The steps are in Set up the navigation bar and footer.

The image I uploaded does not show when I share the page. Why?

Click Save in SEO configuration. The image is not stored until you do.
