Playing audiobooks

The reader plays audiobooks directly in your browser and in the Fenice apps. You can control playback, skip chapters, adjust speed, and resume exactly where you left off in your next session.

|| Audiobooks require an active internet connection. Offline playback is not available.

1. Playback controls

The controls appear in the bottom bar of the reader:

ControlAction
Play / PauseStarts or stops playback
RewindGoes back 30 seconds
ForwardSkips ahead 30 seconds
Previous chapterGoes to the previous chapter. If more than 5 seconds have passed since the beginning of the current chapter, it restarts from the beginning
Next chapterSkips to the next chapter

| You can also control playback from your operating system's media panel, lock screen, or headphone buttons.

2. Progress bar

The progress bar shows your position within the current chapter. To jump to any point, click on the bar or drag the indicator to where you want.

The current time appears on the left and the total chapter duration on the right, both in MM:SS format.

3. Playback speed

You can change the speed at any time by clicking on the speed control. Available options are: 0.5x, 0.8x, 1x (normal), 1.2x, 1.5x, and 2x.

4. Chapter list

Click the table of contents icon (☰) at the top of the reader to see all chapters of the audiobook. The chapter currently playing is highlighted with a volume icon. You can jump to any chapter by clicking on its row.

On mobile devices, the list opens in full screen.


5. Appearance

The reader lets you choose between light, system (follows the device theme), and dark mode. Use the selector in the top right corner of the reader to change the theme.

6. More options

The menu in the top right corner gives access to additional features:

  • About: information about the publication.
  • Reader tour: interactive tutorial of the reader's features.
  • Offline Access: availability of the publication without an internet connection.
  • Citation: generates a citation from a fragment of the audiobook.
  • Share: share the publication.

7. Position saved automatically

The reader saves your position every 5 seconds during playback. The next time you open the publication, playback will continue exactly from where you left off.
